About the Department

The Department of History was established in the year 1996. The general course of the department was initiated from the very beginning of the college with 150 students and two guest teachers to provide opportunities for historical study among the students of rural Bengal. The honours course was introduced after a substantive teacher joined the department in 1999. Now the department has two sustentative and three SACT teachers and the Intake capacity of the department at the honours level is 78. Good teacher-student relationships and study tours are the salient features of the department. This department observed the gradual development of the college from the very beginning. The vision of the department is to develop in students the skills of enquiry, investigation and analysis of the chronological and systematic account of the past and develop in them an interest in historical research.
